Changing What’s Not Broken

“If it’s not broke don’t fix it” is a phrase that we have heard and used many times. I have a situation in our media team where changes would make things “better”, but the current situation isn’t broken. We have two services and have different people in about 90% of the positions. I would greatly enjoy to change the schedule and have everyone for both services about once a month or less. But I have a few challenges.

1. People love their small groups and don’t want to miss, EVER. (except for vacation)
2. People serve in another area during the other service. (and forgo a small group or worship)
3. People love serving on the Media Team and once a month or less is not enough.

All three of those problems are really not problems in themselves, but coupled with each other and a desire to change the status quo we have a problem.

The solution I see is simple but hard.

Cast the reason for change in a clear vision and pray God will allow them to see it.

Drum Condo

We are just wrapping up an upgrade in our Student Ministry Center. We installed a StudioLive 24 console (post about that is coming) and part of putting in the board was moving the band to IEMs AND part of that was micing the drums.

That brings up the “problem”, young drummers who love to beat on the drums. The SMC is a gym in a metal building with a stage in it and no acoustic treatment.  We could hear the drums down the hall that leads to our main worship center. An electronic kit with discrete outputs was out of the question, monetarily. So we decided to build a condo.

We have a guy who is a manager at a building supply and he was able to get the the shell built, for free. It is 2×4 and Structguard, a fire and structurally rated sheetrock like material. We have put kraft backed insulation on the walls and some foam board on the ceiling and foam interlocking tiles on the floor. I used an exterior dryer vent for our cable entry.
